Hurricane Roslyn intensifies into Category 4 storm while approaching Mexico's Pacific coast

Hurricane Roslyn was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane and is expected to make landfall on Mexico’s west coast on Sunday. Wind speeds have hit over 130 MPH and more than a million citizens are at risk of storm increases and flash flooding.

Hurricane Roslyn is about to bring high winds and heavy rainfall to west-central Mexico as it passes near the Pacific Coast on Saturday, forecasters predicted.

Roslyn became a Category 4 hurricane on Saturday. Forecasters warned it could bring coastal flooding and dangerous winds to cities along the Pacific Coast.

Roslyn is a Category 4 hurricane, forecast to reach the coast of west-central Mexico on Sunday.

Hurricane Roslyn is expected to bring high winds and heavy rainfall to west-central Mexico as it passes near the Pacific Coast on Saturday, forecasters said.

People in the affected areas, which include the popular resort town of Puerto Vallarta and other coastal towns in Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa, were urged to complete hurricane preparations because of strong winds. The hurricane is expected to make landfall on Sunday morning.

Roslyn became a Category 4 hurricane on Saturday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center, meaning its wind speeds were between 130 and 156 miles per hour. As of 8 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, the hurricane was about 90 miles southwest of Cabo Corrientes in Jalisco and moving north at 10 m.p.h., the agency said.

Forecasters said Roslyn likely would pass close to Cabo Corrientes and the Puerto Vallarta region during the night, but warned that those areas would still see high winds, heavy rains and rough surf.

Hurricane Roslyn on Saturday dramatically strengthened into a major Category 4 hurricane and now has less than 24 hours before making landfall.

Hurricane Roslyn on Saturday dramatically strengthened into a major Category 4 hurricane and now has less than 24 hours before making landfall over the Pacific coast of Mexico. According to a CNN report, forecasts indicated that Hurricane Roslyn which developed off the western coast of Mexico may hit land this weekend. As of Saturday morning, Roslyn had wind gusts of 130 mph, as reported by the National Hurricane Center.  

The storm center on Saturday warned, "Additional strengthening is forecast today." Further adding, it said, "Although some weakening is possible beginning tonight, Roslyn is expected to still be near or at major hurricane strength when it makes landfall on Sunday." 

Following the reports of landfall, a hurricane warning has been put in effect from Playa Perula northward to Escuinapa, which even includes well-known tourist hotspots in Puerto Vallarta. On Sunday morning, after sunrise, the storm is anticipated to make landfall north of Puerto Vallara.

Seemingly oblivious to the approaching storm, tourists ate at beachside eateries Saturday around Puerto Vallarta and smaller resorts farther north on the Nayarit coast where the storm likely was headed.

Russia-Ukraine war live updates; NATO discussing air defenses for Ukraine

Sending more air defence systems to Ukraine is a “top priority” NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said in Brussels. The agenda on Wednesday was to provide more military aid to Ukraine, defence officials from nearly 50 countries also convene, with Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin joined both meetings.

Kyiv demanded more air-defence systems after a bombardment of Russian strikes and threats to retaliate for an explosion on the Kremlin’s prized bridge to Crimea. Russia’s FSB security service accused .Ukraine’s military intelligence was accused by the Russia of Saturday’s explosion on the Crimean Bridge. Russian authorities said they detained eight people on Wednesday in this regard. Ukraine has n
ot officially claimed responsibility, but a government official said its special services were involved.

Key points to know:

Ø  The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine is working on power generators as there is no external power for the second time in days, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. The United Nation’s nuclear watchdog is doing its best to establish a security zone at the site, which is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. Now Russian forces have all control on it.

Ø  Ukraine’s defense minister told that they have been received IRIS-T air-defence system from Germany and four HIMARS launchers from the United States. The air defence system is the first of four that Germany is sending to protect Ukraine’s innocent people from Russian air attacks.

Iranian Drones were used in latest attacks:

Russia used Iranian-made drones in the attacks across Ukraine on Monday according to British Defence intelligence.

Russia had launched 86 Shahed-139 unmanned aerial vehicles during the conflict so far, 60% of which were destroyed in the air. These aerial vehicles may be used at low altitude. Russia had successfully used several drones at once to carry out attacks.

Tehran sent its first shipment of drones to Russia in mid-August. Moscow had used Iranian drones since at least August.

Black Friday sales will start on Thanksgiving Day or even before and it may continue throughout the Black Friday weekend and into Cyber Monday. Pre-Black Friday deals start popping up in early October or November. Given the prevalence of early sales in 2021, you can expect to find most of retailers offering weeks-long and even month-long Black Friday sales in 2022.

It was more rare for a retailer to be open on Thanksgiving than closed, the trend may be continue in 2022. The offers are targeted till Turkey Day, 2022.

No body knows where this season will go with fewer health and safety concerns this year but more worries around inflation and rising prices.

1. Thanksgiving Day may be an online shopping blast.

Retailers walked back a decades-long tradition of opening their store doors on Thanksgiving to eager shoppers waiting in lines outside. Retailers cited safety concerns and employee appreciation as reasons for staying shuttered on Thanksgiving due to COVID. It would permanently close its doors on Turkey Day. We suspect most major retailers will follow suit – perhaps not with a permanent announcement, but a plan to close on Thanksgiving in 2022 nevertheless.

2. Retailers will continue to Black Friday out

Even before the pandemic, Black Friday was becoming more of a week than a day, with retailers kicking off their online Black Friday deals a few days to a week before Black Friday itself.

But the past two years pushed the envelope, and Black Friday ballooned from a week to a season, with retailers firing on all cylinders to start the hype early and keep it going until Thanksgiving weekend. 

In 2021, Amazon kicked off an early Black Friday sale at the start of October. This pre-sale continued until the Black Friday sale started on Thanksgiving Day. While there were a few standout deals on Black Friday, overall, there wasn't a stark difference between the deals offered during the "pre"-sale and the "real" sale.

3. Retailer memberships will be promoted

Amazon is known for hosting sales that are exclusively available to its Prime members. Prime Day is the obvious example. But during Black Friday, too, Prime members often have had early or exclusive access to specific deals and promotions.

Last year, Walmart got in on the retail membership action. Walmart hosted three Deals for Days shopping events as part of its Black Friday sale calendar, and each event gave early access to Walmart + members. IN addition, Best Buy had perks tied to its Total Tech membership.

We expect retailers to continue to push shoppers to sign up for their store membership programs this Black Friday. This serves as a way for retailers to entice shoppers to complete all their shopping through them – since they'd want to use the membership they're paying for. Gift cards were a popular purchase during the 2021 holiday shopping season – since shoppers didn't have to worry about them selling out or not arriving in time. We also saw many great Black Friday gift cards deals at major retailers like Amazon and Target.

Finding a gift card on sale is basically like getting free money, so shoppers are wise to make these purchases. We expect to see even more gift card deals available this Black Friday and more promotions that tie together a product with a gift card.

 Cyber Monday 2022 will be a Black Friday repeat (mostly)

Despite the hype Cyber Monday has gotten over the years, its deals are generally recycled from Black Friday. Having drummed up excitement over sold-out Black Friday deals, retailers typically release the same savings and pitch them to shoppers as a "second chance."

For shoppers, that means: Don't hold out for Cyber Monday, assuming deals will improve. If a popular product you want is on sale on Black Friday, buy it. And then hit up Cyber Monday sales for whatever you missed.

One thing to note, with travel back on the table, we do wonder if airlines and travel booking sites will launch deals on Cyber Monday. In the past, Cyber Monday was a popular time for deals surrounding travel, so we'll be on the lookout to see if this holds true in 2022.

Kent Carter shot to death in Turks and Caicos

Arlington, Virginia, branch, was shot and killed on Sunday while traveling in Turks & Caicos to celebrate his 40th birthday, the NAACP and the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force reported.

Two people were killed in a targeted attack on their vehicle, that time there were staff from a local business with them, the police said. The vehicle was taking the tourists back to their hotels, according to the statement from Chief of Police Trevor Botting. 

The shots were fired from another vehicle but number of shooters could not be cleared.

Botting said he believes the attack was targeted and that it was carried out by gang members who “have no regard for life and who are hell-bent on causing indiscriminate harm and misery across the TCI.”

“The violence is linked to drugs supply and is fueled by revenge, turf wars and retribution,” Botting said.

Three other people were injured in the shooting.

The second person shot and killed was from a local business, police said.
